"To prolong catheter longevity and venous health, the University of Missouri Equine Center is placing 14Ga Antimicrobial IV catheters in all our patients that are septic, endotoxemic, critical, or are high risk for jugular thrombosis and infection. To date, there has been no incidence of reactions in the jugular veins of horses where MILA antimicrobial catheters have been used. These catheters are the safest way we have found to maintain asepsis in intravenous treatment of critical patients and to prolong the life of the catheter."
